Shop Round Sunglasses
Symmetrical. Beautiful. Balanced. The round shape that dominated eyewear for many years has become more of an icon than any other style of sunglasses.
In the Round
Round frames were naturally chosen when glasses first appeared in printed materials. Out of all the shapes, circular frames were an easy choice for the learned and scholarly. After all, such an accessory was always synonymous with literacy in those days.
Looking into its history, round frames and glasses in general were worn without temples. They were simply frames that people then had to hold up using a hand or would have been customised to fit the eye socket seamlessly to prevent it from falling off, such as the monocle. Made of heavy metals such as lead and iron, the precursor to modern round frames was anything but fashionable.
Believe it or not, round frames have been around for more or less 700 years and if you think that John Lennon was the only influential person to have donned a pair of round glasses, think again. Prints from earlier centuries show us that people back then had worn round glasses quite regularly and it is obvious that style took a backseat. These glasses were all about being functional to the wearer.
Thanks to 20th century inventions and discoveries, round glasses evolved into more wearable eyewear. With the addition of temples, these glasses were made up of much lighter materials too. The 1920s made it possible for almost anyone to wear round spectacles, though over the years the style lost in favour of other more unique shapes such as the cat eye or aviators.
By the 1960s round glasses became a symbol of anti-consumerism when the youth opted to buy vintage frames from local flea markets or simply get ahold of their granddad’s old pair.
Even now, a century later, round glasses are one of the most sought after styles when it comes to eyewear. Little has changed to its style — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it — and round frames have come full circle. From its humble beginnings to becoming an iconic fashion accessory, going round is perhaps the only way to showcase your style.
Round Them Up
The beauty of the round sunglasses is that a simple shape can somehow be subtle yet bold – there is something dramatic and statement making about a pair of round shades. With different materials and endless colour combinations, round sunglasses can take you wherever you want to go, from the flower-power peace loving 60s to the fashion-forward runways of now. And while they are transporting you to a new time they will elevate your outfit to astronomical heights. This style may be a simple traditional shape, but it’s versatility ensures that people will take notice of your round shades.
Round Frames for Angular Features
Due to its lack of sharp edges and angles, round frames go perfectly well on faces that have strong angular features such as a strong jawline. Those with heart and square-shaped faces will find themselves better suited to display a pair of round specs as they add a softening effect.
